Refashioned Runway: Creative Ways to Turn Existing Clothes Into One-of-a-Kind Fashion
“If you want to make a billion dollars, come up with the app that shows people how to shop the thrift store and upcycle their finds.”
That comment came from a respected trend expert during a session I attended at the recent h+h Americas show, and it has stuck with me ever since. Because here’s the bigger story: sustainability and upcycling are not about rejecting new materials. They are about teaching people to see value differently, combine old and new creatively, and make more intentional choices.
At the trade show, I created a sustainable fashion collection to show on the runway and in an exhibit space built around that exact idea. Thrifted pieces, castoff textiles, forgotten materials, trims, tools, and creative techniques came together to reimagine fashion with polish, personality, and purpose.

That same conversation carried into my media segments, where we talked about how upcycling connects creativity, consumer behavior, sustainability, and the growing desire for more personal, one-of-a-kind style. For brands, retailers, educators, and media companies, refashioned is where the opportunity lives.
People don’t just want inspiration, they want guidance. They want to know what to look for, what is worth saving, which new materials can elevate the project, how to style it, how to transform it, and how to combine old and new in ways that feel modern, wearable, and personal.
This is the space I love working in as a lifestyle host, trend strategist, and media spokesperson: turning creative ideas into stories, segments, content, and experiences that help people live better creatively.

Sustainable fashion is not a niche craft story anymore.
It’s a consumer story.
A retail story.
A media story.
And a creativity story with serious business potential.
