Trends in home decor, food and fashion that should be on your list in 2022.
We are all crossing our fingers for more cocktail parties and jet-setting in 2022 but the appreciation for our homes is here to stay. So, whether it’s food, fashion or home decor, here are the hot trends to follow in the new year!
HOME DECOR
The trend of mixing chic colors and cool patterns continues but you can pump up volume by mixing patterns and adding more vibrant colors to your room. If you are using floral prints on your table setting don’t be afraid to mix in with a splash of plaid with complementing colors. Or update an old chair by recovering it with modern upholstery fabric the twist is to add a pillow or ottoman made from old neckties.
The key is to use complementing colors between the new fabrics. Better Homes & Gardens is calling it Grandmillennial style and I love it!
Old and new are here to stay! Antiques and heirlooms are front and center so whether you inherit something from your family or hit a thrift store to find a lost gem, add these items into your home décor. Use heirloom china for your everyday dish-ware or mix and match serving pieces on a vintage dining room table. Repurpose a worn-out end table and add pops of paint and faux jewels to match your décor. Let your imagination run wild when it comes to incorporating the old with the new. Learn more about setting a proper tablescape using old china from my interview with Washington Post journalist, Jura Konias.
The Goblincore trend is a huge fashion movement this year which explores the fantasy of living in the countryside, it embraces nature and appreciates all things ugly like fungus, frogs, tree bark, moss, mud, mushrooms and more. It might be a new take on fashion but it you want to incorporate this trend into your home décor, try creating your own “family tree” wall art.
Speaking of nature, green green green is the color of the year. Soft sage, to be more specific, was proclaimed to be the color of 2022 but feel free to add different shades of green to your palette. Designers are implementing green into furnishings, wall coverings and even adding more plants to a room for the ultimate going green approach.
FASHION
Thrift stores and vintage looks are at an all-time high with the Gen-Z population. The thought of global sustainability is at the forefront of refashioning and upcycling this clothing. Check out my ideas to refashion your wardrobe with these projects – they are easy to do and so on-trend. And if you like refashioning clothes, think about selling them on-line because 1 in 4 people are more likely to shop through their social media feeds and special in-app features.
Expect fashion to move away from leisure wear and into still “comfy” but more bold options. Oversized jackets, knit suits, and sweater vests all step out this year. Fashion in 2022 is being used as a vehicle for joy, optimism, and self-expression.
And since we are in the roaring 20’s so let’s act like it! You will see fringe hit the runway this spring and fringe means fun because nothing moves as good as a good fringe. Add some black and white to your wardrobe and you’re set to impress in 2022.
FOOD
Since the WFH movement started 2 years ago more and more people are cooking with confidence. Home cooking has become the new normal. Even young adults are more investing more time to testing out secret family recipes and complex cooking techniques.
Charcuterie boards were all over the place last year and the trend keeps growing. Once upon a time a charcuterie board with meats and cheeses was a simple snack put out at a dinner party before the big meal. But now, cooks are creating charcuterie boards of all kinds; like a salad board, pickled veg board, potato board, and of course the traditional cheese board. People are making it an activity to do with the kids so the entire family can get in on the action. So, if you have a platter, you can create almost any type of board you crave!
Healthy eating continues to be on the forefront of everyone’s mind these days. From sourcing sustainable foods, to following a plant-based diet or meatless Mondays, and learning more about superfoods, cutting back on sugar or just being mindful of what you put in your mouth, people are eating healthy to live longer.
If you consider yourself a magical, trendsetting, creative human, these are some ideas to dive into the pop culture of 2022. Happy New Year!
