6 Cruise Essentials

Cruise Ship near Santorini

Be sure to bring these 6 essentials before you set sail on your luxury cruise.

Guess what, cruise ships are finally cruising again so get vaxxed and waxed and get ready to set sail.  The team at JaneClauss.com wants you to travel safe and smart so we created a list of 6 essentials you don’t want to set sail without!

Small power strip for electrical cords

1. Power strip for charging.

It’s an interesting “bring”, we know, but when you need a charge you’ll be happy you have it!  Most cruise ships have limited outlets in the cabins so when you’re plugging in your phone, tablet, blow dryer, smart watch you’ll be thankful to have an extra place to charge.  Sources say a 3-5 outlet strip will do the trick!

lanyard with jewelsLanyards

2. Lanyard

Just like being VIP at a rock show, bring a waterproof lanyard to hang around your neck for travels.  If it has a pouch to hold key card, ID, even VAX cards that’s even better.  Plus, it’s a great way for everyone in the family to keep track of all the things. And you can bling it up for evening or dress it down for daytime, find the perfect lanyard on-line.

Lip balm with SPF

3. Lip balm with SPF

We know sunscreen is important all year around for your suit of skin, but don’t forget about your lips!!  On a cruise you’ll be spending a lot of time outside under the blazing sun and your lips will get sunburnt quickly.  It happens. Just toss a few small lip balm sticks into every bag so you are always protected.  Research shows, the top sun protectant people wished they had brought in a trip was lip balm with SPF, so don’t forget yours. Your lips will thank you later.

Metal Straw

4. Metal straws

In general, we are all being more mindful of waste and cruises are no exception.  Many are reducing their use of plastic straws. If you’re a person who loves drinking from a straw, and you hate the soggy paper straws, bring a metal straw with you for your trip. Metal straws are a great way to be environmentally conscious, plus, they are cheap and easy to pack.

Oversized travel bag for touring

5. Shore excursion bag pre-packed, of course

One of the best things about taking a cruise are the day excursions! You get one at every port and it’s really the most obv reason you take the cruise to see more stuff!  Right, seeing new terrain, exploring the towns, and finding take home trinkets are one of a kind experiences.

Be sure to pack a medium size bag that you can comfortably wear crossbody, as a backpack or over the shoulder; add an extra pair flip flops, baby wipes, tissues, sunscreen, and sunglasses to it before you set sail so you’re ready to grab and go when at the next port stop.

Magnetic Dry Erase Board with markers

6. A whiteboard for the cabin

Bring a small whiteboard and dry erase marker with you. It’s an excellent way to stay connected with your travel companions when you are off doing different things on the ship.

The walls of most cruise ships are magnetic so it won’t take up much space and it will be visible for all. Plus, cell phones don’t work when you’re in the middle of an ocean, and wifi can be really expensive.  Yes, we are back to leaving handwritten notes – it’s what we did before texting!  Look for a small magnetic whiteboard with markers like you would buy for a dorm room. This is a great top tip for your trip and a great way to leave updates for your travel companions.

With these 6 cruise essentials you can travel smart and enjoy the journey!

Happy Sails!
