You must want to make your home beautiful and festive this holiday season. But the cost of buying expensive decorative items can be a dampener.
However, you need not worry about it, as here we are sharing with you five DIY ideas to help you decorate your home and spread some cheer this festive season.
Pinecone Christmas tree
No Christmas celebration is complete without a Christmas tree. Do it a little differently this year; say goodbye to those dull, artificial trees. Instead, make one with pine cones. They have a distinctive charm befitting all kinds of décor, be it rustic, homely, or contemporary.
It is relatively easy to make a pinecone Christmas tree. All you’d need is:
- Pinecones
- Styrofoam cones
- Mini pompoms
- Glue
- A hardboard base
You can make the tree as big as you want by attaching the styrofoam cones to increase the height. Use glue to stick the cones on the styrofoam base set with a hardboard deck. Decorate with pom-poms. You can also paint the pine cones if you want the traditional green color.
Toothpick stars
Stars can add a festive touch to any occasion. You can make beautiful stars with the following items:
- Polystyrene balls
- Toothpicks
- Paint
- Thread
Take a polystyrene ball, and stick toothpicks in it at different lengths to create a star-like ball. On one toothpick, tie a thread to hang these stars. Paint them in silver, golden, red, and green to add some sparkle.
A frost-wreath
This Christmas, gather whatever you can find in your garden—twigs, leaves, flowers, and pine cones. Round them up to create a beautiful nature-inspired wreath. You can apply a coat with white spray paint to add a frosty look to it.
Scented candles
Suppose you want your home to smell pleasant, light scented candles and add to the festivities. They are easy to make. You would need the following items:
- Wax
- Wick
- Scented ingredients (pine, orange peel, lavender flowers, cinnamon sticks)
- Glass
Melt the wax in a bowl and add your desired scented ingredient to it. You can also combine two or more scents. Mix them well. Take the glass and place the candle wick in it. Pour the melted wax in it and wait for it to cool down. Your scented candles are ready.
Fairy lights
Most of us use fairy lights for our Christmas decorations, but did you know you could create unique effects using the lights? Use white and blue lights to create an icy theme. You can even wrap your Christmas-tree in the same lighting.
