Holiday decorating time is here and one of the things I LOVE to make for my own home – and to give as gifts – are wreaths. So fun, so festive, so many different ways to make a cheery holiday wreath.
Usually, I rip up old gowns and use the fabric to make wreaths…BUT…
…lately I’ve been really into paper crafting. I know most people make cards and scrapbooks with their pretty paper but I wanted to challenge myself and make something extraordinary! Like my motto says; “Showing you how to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary” So grab some holiday paper and let’s go!
You’ll need several solid pieces of standard size paper to cover the base; use red, green, brown or whatever color matches your patterned paper color scheme. You’ll need 25-30 pieces of 6×6 or 8×8 patterned paper, a styrofoam flat backed circle, sentiment card, wire hanger, scissors, double sided sticky tape and a glue gun.
Cut 1/2″ strips from the solid paper to wrap around the styrofoam circle. Wrap the styrofoam to completely cover the white by over-lapping the paper strips as you wrap each of them.
Make cones from the patterned paper. No need to cut the paper, simply roll each paper into a cone shape and secure open edge with tape.
Glue each cone on the flat side of the covered circle with the points facing in toward the center. Continue adding the cones mixing the different patterns of the paper.
See, even the backside is clean and neat!
Once all the cones are in place, cut out the sentiment from a recycled Christmas card and add it to the center of your wreath.
A great way to hang the wreath is to bend a wire hanger into a circle and attach it to the back of the wreath then you can use the hook as the hanger!
This paper wreath idea can be recreated using any themed paper for Birthdays, Baby Showers, New Year, Easter, Valentine’s Day or any special event. Using a quality paper makes it durable to withstand even the cheeriest of holiday parties. What an easy and affordable way to create festive holiday decor!!
Happy Crafting!
