Order a Mint Julep for me too!
Nothing says Kentucky Derby more than sipping on a Mint Julep! Serve up the signature drink and taste the fun. All you need is bourbon, sugar, mint and crushed iced. Feel free to make it more than just one day a year.
Ingredients:
8 mint leaves
2 oz Simple Syrup (consisting of dissolved sugar in boiling water that you can make ahead)
Crushed iced
2 oz Bourbon
Cold water
Metal silver or bronze cup or rock glass
Make it:
To make simple syrup:
Add a cup of water and 1 1/2 cups sugar to a saucepan. Bring to a boil letting the sugar dissolve. Stirring occasionally for two minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
To make the cocktail:
Put a few mint sprigs in the bottom of the serving cup with a little simple syrup and muddle together.
Fill the cup with crushed ice.
Add a splash of cold water and fill the rest with good bourbon.
Bruise the mint sprigs a bit by slapping them on the back of your hand; this helps release the oils and flavors. Garnish the cocktail with mint springs and hand over to the happy guest. Make one for yourself.
Enjoy!
