DIY Little Stinker Costume
When it comes to Halloween, you want your toddler’s costume to be cute but you also want them to stay warm for hours of Trick-or-Treating. This little stinker skunk costume is perfect for a cold night of Trick-or-Treating, and is super cute too!
They probably already have most of the clothes in their closet, making this a super easy DIY. You will need black sweatpants and a black hoodie, white faux fur, black felt, straight pins, a sewing machine or fabric glue, and polyester padding.
1-Measure and cut the fabric
First measure the length of the front of the hood to the bottom of the jacket, cut a piece of faux fur the same length as what you just measured plus an additional fourteen inches to make the tail, this should be about five inches wide.
2-Cut the fabric for the tail
For the back part of the tail, cut a piece of felt that is fourteen inches long and five inches wide. Pin the felt for the tail and the faux fur together.
3-Sew the tail together
Sew the sides of the tail together and leave an opening to stuff with padding. Once you finish stuffing the tail, stitch the opening together.
4-Cut the faux fur for the jacket
In the middle of the back side of the faux fur, cut a slit in the fur from the neckline to jacket bottom to create skunks stripes. This will help the costume look more authentic and create the illusion of stripes that a skunk has.
5-Pin the faux fur on and sew
Next pin entire fur piece to the jacket and be sure to separate the slit for costume authenticity of skunk stripes and sew it all on.
6-Cut out ears and sew them to the hoodie
You can make ears by cutting two ear shaped pieces out of the felt and stitch them onto the hood of the sweatshirt where the ears would go.
7-Cut faux fur pieces for the front of the sweatshirt
For the front of the sweatshirt, cut two rectangle pieces of faux fur about the length of the jacket and sew on both the edges of the zipper. If you don’t sew, you can use fabric glue and it will be just as easy!
This costume is cute, warm, and is the perfect costume for the little stinker in your life! The great part about it is that you probably already have most of the supplies in your child’s closet, so get crafting this Halloween!
