Core Exercises for Staying Fit Over Fifty
Jane Clauss talks to founder and owner of The Core Method, Lily Horowitz, about three fundamental core exercises that will help you stay fit over fifty. Maintaining a strong core is essential for living a healthier lifestyle and feeling better overall.
Having a strong core is important to maintaining a healthier, stronger life. As we continue to age, it helps to maintain balance, posture, and less back pain.
Here are three core exercises to use regularly to maintain core functionality for years to come.
1- Bent Knee Leg Lift
This is a great exercise to keep your core in shape. Sit up tall at the edge of the seat and make sure to keep your back straight. Your body should look like the letter ‘L.’ After that, bring your arms up to your chest, fold them across each other, and drop your shoulders down. It is important to focus on your breathing and as you bring your leg up, exhale. WHen you bring your leg down, inhale.
2-Leg Lift
This is an easy way to engage your core. Sit in a chair and extend your leg so that it’s stretched out and flex your foot. It is important to keep your core engaged and your back straight throughout the exercise to get the most out of it.
3-Leg Extension
Another easy core exercise is a leg extension. Sit in a chair and hold your leg up. Make sure to flex your foot and pull the navel to your spine. Once again, focus on your breathing and blow your air out while you exhale, push your leg out to the side and then inhale when you bring your leg back to center.
These exercises are a great way to stay fit over fifty and are fundamental to living a healthier life.
