Punk Rock Meets Lovely Lady with this Sassy T-Shirt Dress
In this episode of Craft Room Crash, Jane dives into the maker’s space of designer Angela Johnson to learn how to repurpose old t-shirts and turn them into a sassy and sweet t-shirt dress! Angela loves to upcycle old t-shirts into unique dresses, where punk rock meets lovely lady. It’s SEW easy!
For this project, you will need a sewing machine, scissors, old t-shirts, pattern pieces, and a zipper.
2-Start with the t-shirts
You probably have plenty of old t-shirts lying around that will be perfect for this project! If not, go to a thrift store and pick out some inexpensive t-shirts. You could follow a color or theme to make the dress more cohesive, but you can also mix and match colors and patterns.
3-Arrange your pattern pieces
Next lay your pattern pieces on the t-shirt graphics you want to incorporate on the dress. Flip the pattern pieces over and use the other side for the reverse piece of the dress.
4-Cut out the pieces
After placing the pattern pieces where you want them, work on cutting each of the pieces out. Cut off enough to reach the seam allowance.
Next, start sewing all of the pattern pieces together. After attaching the top and doing the reverse side, start sewing together the skirt. After sewing the skirt together, attach both the top of the dress and the bottom of the dress.
6-Insert the zipper
Finally, sew in the zipper into the back of the dress. Finish the dress off by hemming it to wherever you want it to fall.
This is a super easy way to upcycle old t-shirts into a sassy, unique dress.
