Get creative this year and add a little zing to your life when you bling up your new year and give old items a new life. There are so many reasons to bling up your new year and one of the biggest is saving money and practicing sustainability.
When your strapped by a budget but want to add something new to your home and life, how about adding some gemstones to old frames…..scratch that, add some gemstones to ANYTHING! You can updated boring shoes, an old purse, an extra wine glass, or even a notebook. It’s a great activity for cold winter days and fun to do with kids too. And, by the way, it’s a super thrilling accomplishment when you do-it-yourself!
So get your creative juices flowing and start to bling up your new year!

What you need is what you want to embellish and update! Look around the house for old frames, plain shoes, purse that need some love and wine glasses. The list of things you can update is endless! Flat back cabochons can be found at any craft store but let’s not get crazy, you don’t even have to buy gemstones, you can use broken CDs or buttons or broken costume jewelry.
Before you start, make sure the surface is free of dust or any dirty or old goop that may have accumulated over the years. Do a quick wipe off with a soft cloth or light soap to get the grime out. Next, decide on what embellishments you want to use and how you want to look on the item. You can create a road map for yourself before you start by laying the buttons, or gemstones on the item. Once you are satisfied, start glueing!
If you are using CDs, they are easy to cut with scissors and also fun like puzzle to place on a frame or other object you are embellishing. You can add glittery paper to the top of an old notebook to give it a new look and bling up your new year!
Loose buttons piled high on around a frame make a cute gift for the crafty person in your life! You can also consider using golf tees or fishing lures for a more sporty look!
Incorporating fabric scraps that are glued onto a frame, folder or fashion piece can be a fun way to update something for the new year. When it comes to blinging up your new year, remember, use items you have around the house, be patient waiting for them to dry and just have FUN with it!
