Baseball Hat Holiday Wreath

Make a baseball hat holiday wreath to celebrate your team all year long!

Baseball Hat Holiday Wreath - JaneClauss.com

You don’t need to hang up your summertime ball caps for the winter, simply give them another use as a festive baseball hat holiday wreath. The project is simple and the hats can easily be worn again for next year’s baseball season!  All you need is your imagination, a little inspiration and some straight pins to  make this baseball hat wreath. There’s no mess, no glue, and no sewing so anyone can do it.  So, if you’re ready… let’s make it!

Baseball caps
Foam Circle form
Fleece Fabric
Flat head straight pins
Fabric Scissors

First, cut 3 inch strips of fleece fabric, enough to cover the foam circle.

Wrap the foam circle with fleece strips.  Pull the fabric snug enough so there are no gaps and so that no white from the foam circle is showing.  Secure the ends and a few spots along the circle with straight pins.

You can use any color or pattern of material you like. Here we are mixing the patterns so when there are peaks of the base thru the baseball hat holiday wreath you can see different elements of the festive color and pattern.

To assemble the hats, keep the back of the hat folded into the cap. Place the sides on to the foam circle with the top of the hat facing inward and pin in place.

Start with one cap and secure the sides using straight pins. Since the cap is fabric and pliable, wrap it around the foam base when securing it.

You can see the pins press right thru the baseball cap and into the foam circle. Use as many straight pins necessary to achieve a solid hold.  We like to use extra long straight pins.  Using straight pins over glue ensures that the hat won’t get damaged and they are able to be easily removed from your baseball hat holiday wreath.

Overlap the ball caps as you add them to the foam circle. This helps cover the entire foam circle added extra room for all the hats and maximum coverage.

If you are using fitted baseball caps that are typically sewn in six sections, the top will have a matching fabric covered button also called a squatchee on the crown.

The tops of the hats should all face the inside of the foam circle.

Once all of the baseball hats are placed on the foam circle and pinned on make any adjustments necessary.

To finish, wrap a thick ribbon around the foam circle and between the baseball hats for a festive embellishment. This also covers the edges of the hats and any pin tops that may be visible.

Once the wreath is wrapped with ribbon, finish the top with long pieces and pin the in place.  With the same ribbon, create a bow.

Pin the separate bow in place at the top of the baseball hat wreath. It’s fun to add small bells to the bow now as well. You can also pin them on the to the foam wreath!

Get creative this holiday season and make a wreath using baseball caps. You don’t even need to cut the caps to complete the project all you need to do is pin them to a foam circle. And the best part of this project is, when your team goes on a playoff run, the caps can still be worn!
