This Prom Mom is Ann Marie Tomich. She went to prom at St. Francis Academy in Joliet, IL in 1988. Her daughter is Mia. Mia is a junior at Joliet Catholic Academy and she’s going to prom this year!
Ann Marie’s original dress was made by designer Victor Costa. Did you know they’re calling 80’s dresses vintage now!!
Today prom girls are wearing long sleek fitted dresses; the length is to the ground, if not longer, with a train on some designs. Halter-tops, strapless, and one shoulder looks are still fashionable.
So how do we transform these bows into a look more elegant and on trendy for today’s fashion world? Well, first, the bows have to go….
… and the bodice is a bit too much ruching for me. So I CUT the top in half (Super Scary) and wanted to add some length and elegance to the gown by adding a flowy gorgeous skirt.
At the fabric store I bought 2 yards of red satin. By cutting the new material on the bias, it gives the skirt more movement and with that I added a beautiful train and Swarovski crystal belt. Embellishments are key for this prom season.
The skirt portion of her dress was not very much so I made fancy pillows with all those bows!
Classic, elegant and beautiful… Mia is ready for PROM 2015!
